CPR & AED training is provided by South Jordan Fire Department free of charge to those who live, work, or volunteer in South Jordan City.
The only effective treatment for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is early CPR and early defibrillation. Early CPR alone can double a person's chance of survival. According to the American Heart Association, the survival rate for a SCA victim is as high as forty-eight to seventy-four percent if the victim receives CPR and defibrillation within three to five minutes of collapse. This is up from an average of five to eight percent.
If it has been a few years since you last participated in CPR training you will find that CPR has been simplified. The changes since 2005 include elimination of the pulse check, standardization of the breath to compression ratio, standardization of the compression rate, and "hands-only" CPR for a witnessed adult cardiac arrest. Further, today there are several options for obtaining training. They include the traditional classroom setting, CPR Anytime, and an approved eLearning solution. Each solution is described in greater detail below.
Public Access Automated External Defibrillators are intended for use by the lay rescuer. Today you will find them in airports, fitness clubs, office buildings, retail occupancies, churches and even homes. In June of 2009, the South Jordan City Council adopted an ordinance that mandates the placement of AEDs in certain public and private buildings throughout the City. While they are very safe and easy to use, training will provide you with the confidence you need to safely and effectively use an AED during an emergency.
Additionally, the South Jordan Fire Department offers a training program for local businesses and others who would like more information about establishing an effective public access AED program. A course summary and registration information is included below.
