Course Name:

Basic First-Aid

Course Summary:

This course includes information on how to manage minor injuries and illnesses in the first few minutes until trained emergency responders arrive.  The class includes classroom discussion and practical exercises.   

Course Length:

3.5 hours

Target Audience:

Individuals age 11 and older  

Course Size:

10 – 30 people

Cost:

Residents:  Free                        

Non-Residents: $30.00 per person

Course Name:

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Course Summary:

The (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in the community. When emergencies occur, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

 

During the training you will learn about the hazards that face our community, disaster preparedness, how to perform basic first aid, put out small fires, conduct triage, team operations and to perform light search and rescue. The training also includes a disaster simulation in which participants practice skills that they learned throughout the course. The skills will help you know what to do and your confidence gained will help you when

Course Length:

21 hours (generally 3 hrs per week for 7 weeks)

Target Audience:

Individuals who are age 16 or older and have a desire to prepare to assist themselves, their family, neighbors &/or co-workers following a disaster.  

Course Size:

20 – 35 people

Cost:

Residents:  Cost of supplies only ($30)                        

Non-Residents:  $60.00 per person

Course Name:

Heartsaver CPR/AED

Course Summary:

This course teaches CPR and relief of choking in adults & children; Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) use and use of various types of barriers.  A Heartsaver AED Course Completion Card will be issued upon completion of this course.

 

Please be advised that the department no longer offers the Healthcare Provider CPR Course.   

Course Length:

2.5 - 3 hours

Target Audience:

Residents, students, teachers, employees of local businesses, etc age 11 and older.

Course Size:

10 – 25 people

Cost:

Residents:  Free                       

Non-Residents: $40.00

Course Name:

Fire Extinguisher Selection, Use & Maintenance

Course Summary:

The course includes information on the following:

  • Types of Fires
  • Types of Fire Extinguishers
  • The Rules of Fire Fighting
  • Fire Extinguisher Use
  • Fire Extinguisher Inspection
  • Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

The class involves approximately 1 hour of classroom instruction followed by a practical exercise.

Course Length:

1.5 hours

Target Audience:

Individuals age 16 and older  

Course Size:

10 – 30 people 

Cost:

Residents:  $5.00 per student

Non Residents:  Not available

Course Summary:

Students will learn about the common causes of fires, fire prevention tips, how to conduct a home safety inspection, how to develop a fire escape plan, smoke detector maintenance tips and other fire safety related information.

Merit Badge – First Aid

Course Summary:

This course satisfies the requirements for the BSA First-Aid Merit Badge.  Scouts will learn techniques for CPR & rescue breathing as well as basic first-aid for sudden illness and injury.

Merit Badge – Fire Safety

Course Summary:
